The Book Club is a bi-weekly critical thinking workshop founded and hosted by George Rallis (they/them). This iteration of the BC will be in collaboration with the Queer Collective and will be taking place at Yalla cafe Nicosia starting from the 23rd of September 2026 until December 2026.

The BC has as its basic premise, the accessibility to academic theory and philosophy and its distribution in a casual and approachable way. Theory and bodies of thought are viewed as practical tools for surviving the modern-day ailments of social life, while approached in a queer, deconstructed and decolonized way. Each workshop will be focusing on a different topic which will be announced in advance while its contents (texts, pdfs, videos etc.) will be made accessible prior to the meeting date as well.

Its structure will be a 1h presentation followed by a 30” – 1h open discussion. Studying the material in advance is not mandatory yet highly recommended. If one chooses to participate, without studying the material, that is absolutely fine. If that is the case, you are more than welcome. However, please be cautious of how much space you may be taking in the conversation part. It is important and highly encouraged to ask questions and express your thoughts, yet be mindful of the shared space with others that may have more “specific” or “contextual” questions to ask regarding the actual material.

This Journal page will be dedicated to texts written by George to contextualize certain topics that are adjacent or directly relating to the workshops. This page will function as an “anchor” to the workshops, as a future reference, as an alternative archive, if anyone wishes to refresh their memory with a summarized take on the topic discussed.

The workshop has taken place before in Tapper Bar (Limassol, CY), Drive Drive and NIMAC (Nicosia, CY), Communitism and Romantzo (Athens, GR) and most recently, at the University of the Arts Helsinki (FI).
