On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the streets of Nicosia came alive with color, courage, and hope. At 6 PM, two parallel marches began — one from Eleftheria Square and the other from Kuğulu Park — converging at the Ledra Palace buffer zone, a place long marked by division but on this day transformed into a space of solidarity.
In a world where conflicts, racism, nationalism, and rising anti-gender and anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric continue to deepen divisions, the third edition of United by Pride delivered a resounding and timely message: unity, peace, reconciliation, and human rights belong to all of us.
A Historic and Courageous Gathering
This year’s Pride was historic in more ways than one. United by Pride 2024 became the first Pride held in an uncontrolled territory and ceasefire zone, reclaiming a space often associated with separation and reclaiming it as one of diversity, coexistence, and resistance against hate.
Organizations and communities from across Cyprus came together, overcoming past differences to stand for:
- 🌈 LGBTQIA+ rights and visibility
- 🕊️ Peace and reconciliation
- 🤝 The reunification of Cyprus
- 🚫 A collective stand against racism, sexism, fascism, and all forms of discrimination
More Than a March — A Movement
United by Pride is more than a one-day celebration. It is a movement that reimagines what a shared future can look like on this island. Marchers carried not only flags and banners, but also the weight of history — and the hope that unity across divides is possible.
By filling the buffer zone with music, chants, and joy, participants showed that Cyprus’ diversity is its strength. The event reminded us all that progress comes not from fear or exclusion, but from collective courage and solidarity.
